Welcome to Bingham Nerve & Muscle!

Bingham Nerve & Muscle specializes in state-of-the-art nerve and muscle testing (electromyography or EMG/NCS).  Electromyography is the standard for accurate and comprehensive evaluations of the peripheral nervous system (the “electrical system” of the body or the "wires" of the arm and leg). Patients with complaints such as pain, numbness, or tingling in the arms and legs often require an evaluation. Patients with unexplained weakness of the arms and legs often require a visit as well. This procedure is also an important method for evaluating muscle disorders.  The physicians at Bingham Nerve & Muscle have devoted their careers exclusively to electromyogrpaphy and the evaluation of nerve and muscle disorders.

This narrow focus has given our staff a unique depth of experience allowing us to make an accurate diagnosis for patients. Each year several hundred providers ask us to evaluate their patients.  We perform this test to assist your provider in the management of your condition.  We do not manage or treat patients.

Who Needs an EMG?

Let's assume you are a person experiencing pain, weakness or numbness in the arm or leg. You want relief quickly. You understand that your treatment will require that your doctor accurately determine the cause of your symptoms. This is where your EMG doctor plays a critical role. As a nerve testing expert, he or she is best equipped to find the answer.

Nervous systemMost nerve and muscle abnormalities can be quickly identified if this procedure is done correctly, and then the correct treatment can be prescribed. (see the section titled Five Things You Must Know Before You Pick an EMG Doctor)

Perhaps you will require a special medicine or a splint to be worn on your wrist. Alternatively, something like a temporary modification of your activities may be enough to alleviate your symptoms. Sometimes a surgical procedure is required, and an EMG will help your doctor determine what type of surgeon you will require. For example, numbness of the hand may be caused by a neck disorder, and you will require the expertise of a spine surgeon. If you have a pinched nerve in the hand, you may require an orthopedist or a hand surgeon.  If you get pain, numbness or tingling in the arm or the leg, you will need an EMG doctor so that you quickly find the cause and be on the road to recovery. (see the section titled Five Most Common Causes of Numbness and Tingling)

Five Ways an EMG Can Help You

  1. An EMG accurately analyzes why you have pain, weakness, numbness and/or tingling.

  2. Proper treatment can then be determined based on this test and your diagnosis.

  3. Consideration of further treatment with medication can then be assessed.

  4. The decision of surgical repair can also be considered if deemed necessary.

  5. An EMG helps determine which specialist the patient will need to see as the next step.

Technologists

EMG Certified Technologists

Our five technologists are all certified and have the most up-to-date training.  Each is a Certified Nerve Conduction Technologist (CNCT).  To earn the CNCT credential, a technologist has to meet three requirements:  eligibility (through work and education), a rigorous written and practical examination that tests competency in NCSs, and an ongoing commitment to learning.

Accreditation

Accredited by AANEM

We are proud that all of our EMG labs are accredited by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine with Exemplary Status, the highest level of accreditation a laboratory can achieve under the AANEM Accreditation Program. The AANEM developed the Electrodiagnostic Laboratory Accreditation Program as a voluntary, peer review process that ...
