Medical Expertise and Philosophy
Areas of Specialization: As a physician board-certified in Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine, I have been performing nerve and muscle testing for over 25 years. I enjoy interacting with my patients and getting to know them on personal level. It’s fascinating to see how often we can find some area of connection. As I am in my 60’s, I can better relate to the elderly and their age-related challenges. I often tell them that “it’s tough getting old.” My wife has a special needs brother, which has given me more empathy and a tender heart for those with special needs. In our medical practice, I see a fair number of young athletes. Since I was quite passionate about sports in my youth, I find it easy to relate athletes of all ages.
Approach to Patient Care: As a physician focused on EMG testing, I believe that kindness, understanding, and clear communication are important. Testing can be an unfamiliar experience, and my goal is to create a space where patients feel genuinely cared for and where they are heard. I take the time to explain the process, answer questions, and ease concerns. Building trust begins with listening closely and treating every person as the unique individual they are.
Personal Life and Interests
My wife and I grew up in “The North” where the winters are long and cold. We have enjoyed living in the Jackson area for nearly 25 years where the climate and the people are warm and inviting.
Travel and Vacation Preferences: My wife and I have had unforgettable adventures traveling the world with our children. We have enjoyed renting RV’s out west and exploring our beautiful national parks. International travel has taken us to Canada (Niagara Falls), Mexico (mission trips), Peru (my father’s place of birth), Ecuador (rainforest and Galapagos Islands), Israel (re-tracing and visiting the places Jesus lived and traveled), Egypt (Cairo and The Pyramids), Australia (Great Barrier Reef), and New Zealand (Hobbiton).
Giving Back: My family is passionate about missionary work, which includes both financial and personal support of missionaries. My family has gone on a couple dozen mission trips, mostly to Matamoros (a border town of Mexico). These trips have been a great way to teach our children to serve and assist some of the most impoverished but joyful people in this world. Their experiences have helped them appreciate how blessed we are to live in the United States, and specifically, Tennessee.
Family Life: My wife and I have been married for over 30 years and have three children. We are involved in the church, and my wife enjoys leading women’s Bible studies. Our oldest daughter is pursuing her physical therapy education at the University of Tennessee. Our son is a Union University graduate and is hoping to enter the medical field. Our youngest daughter is obtaining her undergraduate education at Union University in Jackson.
